Ever since the second season wrapped last spring, fans have been anxiously awaiting news on Dead to Me season 3. You’re probably wondering if we’ll even continue to see Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini) attempt to outrun the long arm of the law in another messy mystery.

Of course, as closely attuned fans have already heard (and begrudged), Netflix renewed the Emmy-nominated dark comedy for a third and final season last summer. The renewal didn’t come as a shock, given the series’s much-deserved growth in viewership and conversation online. Not to mention, those well-earned Emmy nominations didn’t hurt either.

But the decision for Dead to Me season 3 to be the last certainly did come as a surprise. On the plus side, after continued twists and turns for Jen and Judy’s joint journey through death, murder and more, a final season will give the series a chance to wrap up on its own terms without dragging out the story and jumping the shark.

As sad as we will be to say goodbye to Dead to Me, we can’t wait for all of the unexpected thrills that are yet to come from the final season. Following another cliffhanger that takes the story in a different direction, we’re more than ready for those lingering questions to get some answers.

Is Dead to Me season 3 happening?

Thankfully, Netflix handed out the renewal not long after season 2 delighted fans in May 2020. With the third and final season confirmed and on the way, there’s no guessing left other than what the future will hold for Applegate and Cardellini’s characters and how the series will see them off into the sunset.

Currently, there’s no official release date (or any solid news for that matter) for the final season, though we should tentatively pencil in a bittersweet binge-watch for later this year. Production has been estimated to conclude sometime in the spring, which leaves the departing series aiming for a premiere at the end of 2021 or early 2022 at the latest.
