When Last Chance U arrived on Netflix it was an instant hit. Boisterous coaches, talented young men chasing their football dreams and small-town problems.

It was a reality show, it was football, it was sad at times and it was beautiful at times. You really couldn’t ask for more from a show of this nature. The show featured three different college football programs over its first five seasons, but will Last Chance U: Basketball continue this success?

That is yet to be seen but we will find out soon with Last Chance U: Basketball arriving on Netflix tonight (March 10, 2021).

Last Chance U: Basketball will follow the same format as the football side by staying at a small school.

What time is Last Chance U: Basketball on Netflix?

Last Chance U: Basketball premieres on Netflix at 12:01 a.m. PST / 3:01 a.m. EST.

This time, it’s East Los Angeles College’s Huskies that will be in the spotlight. Once again, we’ll watch young men fight and claw to make a name for themselves so they can be picked up by bigger schools or otherwise continue to play the game that they love.

While the premise is the same, basketball and football are two very different sports. One of the issues with football is that there are 100 players on a team.

I can imagine it was difficult to choose which players to spend time on and a lot of footage was left on the cutting room floor. With basketball, the teams are much smaller and the players worth following are cut down to five starters and likely a few key reserves. Just by looking at the trailer (below), you can see that the emotional content is heavy.

In this season, we join a team whose coach has never been to the mountaintop, and like in the previous season he loves his kids more than anything. Another vast difference between football and basketball is going to be seen in the coaching styles. The fiery foul-mouthed coaching style used in football is very close to extinct in basketball. Head coach John Mosley is going to be a welcome change of pace from what we’ve seen in seasons past.

Last Chance U: Basketball, the Netflix original, will differ from the football side in a few ways.

This new season of the docuseries will be eight episodes and we’ll see the highs and the lows of a college basketball season, fall in love with a new group of young student-athletes, and at the end see some of them move on to the next chapter. As a basketball fan and a former young man with hoop dreams of my own, I’m very excited about this season.
