Ready for a new truly epic Netflix Original? Who isn’t, right?

Pretty soon, Shadow and Bone will finally make its highly-anticipated streamable premiere on Netflix. Set to be released in the spring of 2021, this edgy new fantasy series was developed by Academy Award-winning screenplay writer Eric Heisserer. And if you haven’t heard about this one yet, listen up. The story within has already proven it has definite staying power with audiences long before ever being adapted for TV.

Here’s what to know about Shadow and Bone.

What is Shadow and Bone based on?

If you’re here because you’re curious to know whether or not the upcoming show is based on a book or book series, you’re in the right place! It is an adaption of a book that is part of a trilogy.

Shadow and Bone is the title of the first book in the best-selling fantasy Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. As we previously reported, Netflix first announced the live-action adaptation back in 2019.

Prior to being turned into a Netflix hit in the making, the book version has already been racking up a ton of notable accolades, including the Romantic Times Book Award, the South Carolina Children’s Book Award, and a top ten spot on The New York Times Best Seller list, to name a few. Looking back, it was only a matter of time before this one found its way to the small or big screen someday.

Curious about the Grisha book trilogy? If you want to know more about the first novel that birthed the series, you can buy Shadow and Bone on Amazon here.

And if you’re still leaning more towards watching the series rather than reading the book, you’re still in the right place. Get psyched for season 1 with Netflix’s gripping teaser for Shadow and Bone below.

Shadow and Bone is hitting Netflix on April 23, 2021.
