Steven Spielberg, Duffer Brothers bringing Stephen King’s The Talisman to Netflix

Netflix is making some major moves this week when it comes to new movies and shows. The latest news involves Steven Spielberg, the Duffer brothers, and Stephen King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman. 

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg and the Duffer brothers, who created Stranger Things, have teamed to bring Stephen King’s The Talisman story to life at Netflix in the form of a TV series. Curtis Gwinn, also of Stranger Things, is also involved as the writer and showrunner.

THR is reporting Netflix is producing the series, along with Amblin Television and Paramount Television Studios.

The Talisman tells the story of a kid who searches for a powerful crystal to help save his dying mother. This crystal is known as the talisman.

When is The Talisman coming to Netflix?

The report, of course, did not mention when The Talisman would be coming to Netflix. It appears that the new Netflix original series is still in its early stages. Netflix has not even officially confirmed this project. If THR is reporting the news, it’s sure to happen.

Based on production timelines and how these things usually go, we’re looking at a late 2022 or 2023 release date for The Talisman on Netflix. I know we’re still in early 2021, but a series like this would likely have to start filming later this year and into early 2022 if it’s going to be released on Netflix by the end of 2022.

That could very well happen, though. On the safe side, I’m guessing 2023 is a much more likely release window for the new series. From what I know about this series, it’s going to be a big undertaking with lots of effects. That can make things take a little bit longer than a regular, old drama series.

So, we could see this series on Netflix by the end of 2022; that’s entirely possible. I’m playing it safe and expecting the new series in 2023.
