What is Shadow and Bone about?

Shadow and Bone is an upcoming fantasy action drama series coming to Netflix that has fans of the genre eager to experience its intriguing narrative. While the trailers and other first glimpses everyone has had have definitely raised anticipation to an all-time, there are some out there that are obviously curious to learn what exactly this spellbinding title is about.

Netflix has seen a lot of success when it comes to developing fantasy shows with plenty of riveting drama and action. Some of these exceptional endeavors include Fate: The Winx Saga, Cursed, Warrior Nun, The Witcher, among several others, and it seems Shadow and Bone is destined to be another fine addition to a stacked lineup.

The show is based on the worldwide best-selling series of books, the Grisha trilogy (also known as the Shadow and Bone trilogy) and the Six of Crows duology written by Leigh Bardugo. Netflix announced back in January 2019 that the live-action adaptation was envelopment to the delight of fans of the spruce material, and the first season consisting of eight episodes is set to premiere on the streaming service on April 23, 2021.

The entire affair is being developed by Arrival’s screenplay writer, Academy-award nominee Eric Heisserer and 21 Laps Entertainment for the streaming powerhouse. The cast of this ambitious ordeal includes Jessie Mei Li, Westworld’s Ben Barnes, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, Archie Renaux, just to name a few.

What is Netflix’s Shadow and Bone about?

The story of Shadow and Bone takes place in a wartorn world where an orphan mapmaker and lowly soldier named Alina Starkov unleashes an extraordinary power that could change everything and possibly set her country free. She is torn from everything she knows to be trained to become a Grisha, a magical soldier in an elite army.

In her attempts to develop and hone her remarkable abilities, she quickly learns that both allies and enemies are all around her and that nothing is as it seems. Whether it’s the Shadow Fold or a crew of charismatic criminals, Alina will have her work cut out for her, and she will absolutely need more than just magic to survive.
