The Russo Brothers are developing The Gray Man, a spy thriller that Netflix has acquired. Deadline reported that The Gray Man would be Netflix’s biggest movies in its history.

The cast of The Gray Man includes Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Wagner Moura, Jessica Henwick Dhanush, and Julia Butters.

According to Deadline, it was announced that Billy Bob Thorton, Alfre Woodward and Regé-Jean Page, of Bridgerton fame, have also joined the cast.

This film marks another book adaptation to Netflix’s catalog. Mark Greaney is the author of the spy thriller novel series where he created Gray Man, a freelance assassin and former CIA operative named Court Gentry (Gosling). Gentry is hunted by Llyod Hansen (Evans), a former coworker in the CIA.W

The Russos also told Deadline that this film could be described as a real-world Captain Ameria: Winter Soldier.  Everyone knows Evans from his role as Captain America, but this time, he plays the villain.

There are 10 novels in the Gray Man series giving the Russo Brothers a lot of content to draw from for future films. This could be the next spy franchise, and with the Russos at the helm and Gosling as the lead, it could prove to be very popular for the streaming network.

The script has been quietly being developed for years, according to the report. The filming for this project was postponed in December and filming is now scheduled to start this month. It will be a huge project with a budget of upwards of $200 million.

This would give the Russos two franchises for Netflix. They are working with Sam Hargrave on a sequel to Extraction that they developed for Netflix. The original film starred Chris Hemsworth and is the most-watched Netflix original movie.
