Starring Riz Ahmed, Sound of Metal is a film about a drummer named Ruben whose life is turned upside down after he learns that he is losing his hearing. Although he initially scrambles to find a solution, Ruben begins to see the merit and peace that comes with silence. The film also features the talents of Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci, Lauren Ridloff, and Mathieu Amalric.

Though the movie did not win any Golden Globes during this year’s ceremony, it did receive one nomination. Ahmed was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, but, of course, that award ultimately went to the late and great Chadwick Boseman for his role in Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
