Exciting news, movie lovers! Moxie is finally coming to Netflix tonight. So let’s take what little time we have left to get ready for the premiere of this girl power-centric flick. Shall we?

Netflix describes the plot as:

"Inspired by her mom’s rebellious past and a confident new friend, a shy 16-year-old publishes an anonymous zine calling out sexism at her school."

What is Moxie based on?

Directed by and starring Amy Poehler, the upcoming comedy-drama is based on a novel of the same name by Jennifer Mathieu. This book-to-movie adaptation tells the tale of one teenager named Vivian Carter (played by Hadley Robinson) who finds and revives her post-punk riot mom’s ’90s concept dedicated to “taking down the patriarchy.”

As this anonymous zine becomes an unlikely hit around her small-town Texas high school, Vivian realizes not only that she’s ready to be heard by whatever means necessary, but also discovers her true voice, helping others to find theirs in the process. Once they’re all fully fed up with the sexism surrounding them, a girl revolution ensues. And it’s definitely one for the books.

Many who’ve read Moxie have noted that even if they thought it wasn’t going to be for them, it turned out to be a book they’d come back to again and again. Like the fictional zine, the story within Moxie carries a silent power all its own. On GoodReads, many reviewers have also mentioned that the title left them feeling “unexpectedly inspired” in the end. From the looks of it, the movie version could very well have the same impact on its audience.
