Dances with Wolves is one of the movies and shows on Netflix this week

While March is quiet, there is going to be plenty to watch throughout the month. This week proves that with these movies and shows on Netflix to watch.

Whether you want an epic historical western or you’re looking for something to keep the children occupied, there is something to watch. It’s hard to pick from the list, especially when you look at the great movies that arrive on the first of the month.

The Dark Knight is back on Netflix, and you’ve got The Pursuit of Happyness if you need a great tearjerker. Word Party drops its fifth season, which is excellent for preschoolers. So, it’s not going to be easy to work your way through the list.

Let’s get into the five must-watch movies and shows on Netflix this week.

Movies and shows on Netflix: Dances with Wolves

We have to start the list with the epic 1990 movie Dances with Wolves. The first reason is for the outstanding cast that includes Kevin Costner, Mary McDonnell, and Tantoo Cardinal.

The second reason is for the story itself. It’s a beautifully created western that doesn’t feel like a western. While beautiful, it’s also devastating. After all, it focuses on real events from the time period.

Dances with Wolves follows a Civil War soldier who forms a bond with some of the Lakota Native Americans. He’s attracted by their lifestyle, choosing to follow the simplicity of their lives. As the culture prevents the Native Americas from using names unless in ceremonial events, the tribe gives this soldier the name Dances With Wolves, and he is a welcomed member of the tribe.

Life isn’t meant to be as peaceful as he’d like. When a group of Union soldiers arrives with the need for the land, the tribe is pushed out. It’s an important reminder of American history, a side that has been overshadowed or forgotten about for far too long.

Watch the movie on Monday, March 1.
