Is Bloodline canceled?

Seasons: 3

Created By: Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman

Starring: Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, Norbert Leo Butz, Jacinda Barrett, Jamie McShane, Enrique Murciano, Sam Shepard, Sissy Spacek, Katie Finneran, John Leguizamo, Andrea Riseborough, Chloë Sevigny

Before there was Ozark, there was Bloodline. Maybe it’s unfair to compare the two series, but Ozark ultimately became the gritty original hit Netflix was trying to establish with the Kyler Chandler-led drama-thriller. These days, it’s anyone’s game in the age of streaming. One week, you’re on top, and the next, you’re struggling to survive amid a sea of buzzy new titles.

Sadly, Bloodline suffered a bit in the early days of Netflix coming into its own as a producer of its own original content. Emmy Award-winner Kyler Chandler starred as John Rayburn, one of the four Rayburn siblings in Islamorada, Florida. When black sheep Danny (Ben Mendelsohn) returns hope, his reappearance shakes up the dynamic in ways that couldn’t have expected.

Bloodline premiered in 2015 to mostly positive reception from critics, though that reception decline with the second and third seasons. Chandler and Mendelsohn received award nominations for their performances, with Mendelsohn taking home an Emmy Award for season 2. Although Bloodline might have been a swing and a miss, the series still had untapped potential to become something truly great with a little more time to flourish.
