Is The Ranch canceled?

Seasons: 4

Created By: Don Reo and Jim Patterson

Starring: Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, Debra Winger, Sam Elliott, Elisha Cuthbert

Now, why should Netflix be embarrassed about canceling an original comedy series that enjoyed a successful four-season, 80-episode run? Not because The Ranch should have lasted longer, but because the streaming giant might have played itself a little bit by calling it quits just shy of 100 episodes. Less doesn’t ever mean more when it comes to syndication in Hollywood.

Ashton Kutcher stars in The Ranch as Colt Bennett, a college football star who returns home to the Iron River Ranch in Colorado when his professional career fizzles. All at once, Colt’s thrust back into the dysfunctional dynamic of his family, including his estranged parents Beau (Sam Elliott) and Maggie (Debra Winger). The sitcom was a fan-favorite and an accessible place for easy laughs.

Whether you think The Ranch had 20 episodes left in its tank, you have to admit they dropped the ball on this one. It’s pretty rare that a streaming series makes the leap to traditional television for a syndicated run, but The Ranch is probably Netflix’s best bet. Eighty episodes is nothing to scoff at, but 100 episodes would have set the series over the edge and been a milestone achievement for the streamer’s original comedy slate. Come on, Netflix!
