Sometimes you can see the writing on the wall with certain shows, but nothing hurts worse than a renewal reversal. Following the third season of GLOW in 2019, the Emmy-nominated comedy series landed a pickup for a fourth and final season. But one year later, in the wake of the pandemic’s production delays and shutdowns, the Netflix original series wound up canceled.

GLOW first debuted on Netflix in 2017 and centered on struggling actress Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie) as she finds herself accepting a role on a women’s wrestling series called Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. The series followed the ups and downs of the women as they learn to work together as a team and face challenges in their personal lives that bleed into their professional lives.

Upon release, GLOW quickly amassed a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim, leading the series to receive an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series and multiple award nominations for Brie, Betty Gilpin and the ensemble cast. Unfortunately, the added costs for COVID protocols and the extended gap between seasons amounted to GLOW’s final season being canceled with one episode filmed. Netflix was in a tough spot, but losing GLOW should still sting.
