As quickly as Sabrina Spellman put a spell on us, she left just as fast. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a Riverdale offshoot from creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, seemed primed to be the next big thing on Netflix in the teen realm, and it was… until it wasn’t. To the very surprising end, the show’s loyal fandom stuck by Sabrina’s side, and it’s simply shocking Netflix didn’t fan the flames of that fandom for at least one more season.

A reboot of the Archie Comics character (not the ’90s Melissa Joan Hart series), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars Kiernan Shipka as the title character in a new horror-tinged take on the beloved teenage witch. As she turns 16, Sabrina Spellman reconciles the duality of her existence as a half-witch, half-mortal as her worlds collide in the fight against good and evil.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, while not a widespread hit with every demographic, was a slam-dunk for the teen set. For all intents and purposes, it’s an acquired taste, not unlike its sister series, but Sabrina 2.0 seemed to have staying power. Unfortunately, Netflix threw in the towel early on a show that could have been a truly generation-defining hit. Beyond Riverdale, things aren’t going well for the extended universe. (Just ask Katy Keene.)
