25 shows Netflix should be embarrassed about canceling

We’re probably all too familiar will Netflix’s tendency to cancel its original series. The good, beloved but criminally underrated Netflix shows far too often don’t last as long as we’d like, resulting in loud dissent and vocal fan campaigns online.

Unfortunately, Netflix shows like GLOW and Santa Clarita Diet got the ax at the seeming height of their runs, while other fan favorites such as Anne with an E, Gypsy and Sense8 were otherwise unceremoniously canceled in spite of spirited outcry.

Without a doubt, Netflix should harbor a bit of shame for letting these brilliant shows go with so much story left to tell and so much impact left to make. But there’s also another aspect of cancellation embarrassment Netflix should have attached to certain series.

Netflix has been known to let go of long-running series before hitting a milestone episode count achievement. Meanwhile, a handful of other Netflix originals that probably shouldn’t have ever been renewed earned cancellations we all saw coming a mile away.

Between well-loved shows we never wanted to say goodbye to and a handful of other questionable cancellations, these are the 25 shows Netflix should be embarrassed about canceling, beginning below with The Order.

Is The Order canceled?

Seasons: 2

Created By: Dennis Heaton

Starring: Jane Manley, Sarah Grey, Matt Frewer, Max Martini, Louriza Tronco

When the horror-drama series The Order premiered on Netflix in 2019, the streaming giant could have had the next big hit on its hands. The series centers on college student Jack Morton (Jake Manley), who becomes involved with the secret society called the Order of the Blue Rose. As Jack learns magic and discovers dark family secrets within the organization, he’s placed in the center of a battle between werewolves and the darks of this new underworld.

Unfortunately, The Order failed to pick up steam with a large audience, more than likely due to little promotion. A fair amount of Netflix watchers might not have heard about the series or had the chance to watch it before newer, high-profile originals eclipsed its moment. In spite of positive reception from critics and a second-season renewal, The Order ended in June 2020 after 20 episodes. More than anything, it’s a missed opportunity for a fan-favorite hit.
