What is Mehdi Dehbi from Messiah doing now?

Mehdi Dehbi, the Belgian actor and theatre director, known for his roles in He is My Girl (2009), The Other Son (2012), Mary Queen of Scots (2013), and A Most Wanted Man (2014), starred in the 2020 religious TV series on Netflix, Messiah.

While the show was gripped with theological intrigue, the production’s diverse film locations abroad amidst a COVID pandemic were a recipe for disaster.  Eventually, Messiah was put on the shelf with other canceled Netflix shows.

Inevitably, the series– focused on the modern world’s reactions to the alleged second coming of Christ–was canceled, but Dehbi is currently involved with another project titled Prisoners of Paradise. Rather than keeping audiences on the edge of their seats with mystery and plot twists, Dehbi is dappling in drama and romance.

Filmed in Mauritius, 17-year-old orphan Lucy Gladwell is sent from England to live under the guardianship of her uncle George Huyton. The story is still being filmed so much of the plot is being kept on the down-low.

Mitch Jenkins, known for the 2012 Act of Faith, will be directing and will star Dehbi alongside Ellie Bamber, Rhona Mitra and Rupert Penry-Jones.
