It’s always interesting to learn random facts that you never knew before and I’m about to lay one on you. As many people are just discovering, The Witcher star Henry Cavill used to date Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune on The Mandalorian since 2019. Normally that wouldn’t be noteworthy news, but fans of both shows have taken notice ever since it was announced that Carano was fired by Disney after she posted a series of controversial remarks online.

The former MMA fighter was fired after she made controversial comments and social media posts about the 2020 election, voter fraud, transgender individuals, and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Henry Cavill and Gina Carano

The incident has reminded people that Henry Cavill and Gina Carano dated on-and-off between 2012 and 2013. Even though it’s old news, people are still having mixed reactions.

There were a lot of comments shading the Man of Steel actor for dating Carano in the first place.

Some people are even comparing the ill-fated couple to Stormfront and Homelander from The Boys, which was a relationship founded on anti-Semitism, bigotry, and racism.

On the other hand, there are some folks trying to point out that everybody has at least one ex they regret dating. At any rate, you can’t make clear judgments about a relationship that ended years ago!

When all is said and done, I’m glad that Carano was fired. Disney is a family-oriented corporation and the Star Wars franchise is all about fighting fascism and dictators. It makes perfect sense that Carano’s comments comparing America’s current divided political climate to Nazi Germany were grounds for dismissal.

Lucasfilm released the following statement about Carano’s comments:

"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

Being a public figure this day in age comes with a certain level of responsibility. Belittling people’s religion and culture on social media is something that could get anyone fired from any job and it bodes well that Carano is being held accountable for her actions. At this time, there is no news about the future of Cara Dune’s character on season three of The Mandalorian.
