Bridgerton season 2 adds Simone Ashley as Kate

The Netflix original series Bridgerton was released less than two months ago. It has broken many Netflix viewing records and has been renewed for its second season.

From the moment the series premiered, it had a substantial fanbase in the readers of the novels it is based on—fans who were anxious to see this family come to life in a series.

The Bridgerton novel series is written by Julia Quinn, and each story is based on a sibling in the Bridgerton family. The first season followed the story of Daphne, who is the eldest daughter and the fourth born of the siblings who belong to an unconventionally close-knit family.

Although the first season focused on Daphne and her quest to find a husband, we were introduced to all the children in the family and their widowed mother, Violet. We got to know all the siblings and learned some of their personalities. Viewers were quick to choose a favorite Bridgerton and social media is riddled with memes and fan art to prove this.

Who is Kate in Bridgerton season 2?

Bridgerton season 2 will follow the second book that follows the eldest Bridgerton, Anthony. He is titled, rich and gorgeous, making him quite sought after about the ton.

The second book is titled The Viscount Who Loved Me and focuses on Anthony finding a woman suitable to be his Viscountess. Although with most adaptations, liberties are taken, and the storylines don’t always follow to the letter, but it has been reported this season, Anthony will be the focus.

So, who is the woman who will become very involved in Anthony’s life? Well, Netflix just announced Simone Ashley will star as Kate in Bridgerton season 2.

Deadline has reported that Simone Ashley has been cast as Kate Sharma, Anthony’s love interest. Kate is intelligent, independent, new to the ton and the expectations of Regency Era London.  Being new in the ton is never a good thing as society members have their rules and expect everyone to follow them. Being a newcomer, it will be interesting to see how Kate navigates her way into Anthony’s heart.

If you are familiar with Regency Romance novels and have watched the first season of the series, you will know that finding the perfect match is forefront in all of the female’s minds, even those who are married are always trying to play matchmaker. Anthony, being a very eligible bachelor with a title, will expect much of his mate. And, we learned in the first season that he isn’t in any hurry to find her.

Will Kate it be love at first sight for these two? Or will her strong-willed nature and his pride and social standing get in the way?

Ashley is known for her work in Sex Education, Broadchurch and The Sister.  She will make a lovely addition to the cast.

Bridgerton is scheduled to start filming in the spring of 2021.
