33. Always Be My Maybe

If you’re a fan of the friends-to-lovers trope and/or love Keanu Reeves acting weird, Always Be My Maybe is the perfect film for you to watch on Valentine’s Day. The movie stars Ali Wong, Randall Park, James Saito, Michelle Buteau, Vivian Bang, Keanu Reeves, Susan Park, Daniel Dae Kim, Karan Soni, and Charlyne Yi.

The film follows Sasha Tran and Marcus Kim who have been childhood friends for forever and grew up next door to each other in San Francisco. Their bond continues into their teenage years but abruptly comes to an end when Marcus’ mother dies and the two have sex.

Cut to sixteen years later, Sasha is a celebrity chef in New York and is engaged to a successful restaurateur while Marcus is part of an unsuccessful band and lives in San Francisco with his widowed father while also working as a handyman.

When Sasha breaks up with her fiance, she moves back to San Francisco to open a new restaurant. While there, she reunites with Marcus and his father when they come to install the air conditioning in her new temporary home.

After some awkwardness, they become friends again but Marcus clearly still has feelings for her. Unfortunately, before he can express his feelings, she announces that she’s dating Keanu Reeves and that they should go on a double date.

The double date is chaotic and hilarious but ultimately leads to Marcus and Sasha seeing each other. They have a few hiccups along the way, but they eventually come to love and support each other fully.

Always Be My Maybe is romantic, cute, and super funny. It’s the perfect movie to watch on Valentine’s Day whether you’re chilling in your house by yourself or with a loved one.
