Rebecca 2 - romantic movies
Rebecca: (L to R) Armie Hammer as Maxim de Winter, Lily James as Mrs. de Winter. Cr. KERRY BROWN/NETFLIX /

21. Rebecca

Sure, Rebecca isn’t exactly a romance, but who doesn’t want to fall in love with a wealthy dude and then realize his house is haunted by his dead wife and his manipulative housekeeper is trying to kill you? Ok, maybe that’s just me, but Rebecca definitely has some romantic elements to it.

The whole beginning of the movie features a romantic sequence with Maxim de Winter and the woman who becomes Mrs. de Winter. She starts as a companion to a rich woman and ends up his wife before the vacation is over.

Little does she know what is waiting for her when she goes home with him. She has to deal with a husband who is dealing with a past she knows nothing about, a housekeeper who she can’t quite figure out, and a dark presence over the house that she can’t break through.

Her new husband is so different from what he was when they first met and when they were on their honeymoon. Is he a monster or is there something else going on?

If you and your significant other are a classic literature fan and/or a thriller/horror fan, this is the movie for you. It’s got romance and thrill and mystery. There’s even a trial.

This is one of those stories where you think you know exactly what’s going to happen and then something is revealed and BOOM, everything you thought you knew is completely wrong.

Rebecca is based on the classic book by Daphne du Maurier and stars Lily James, Armie Hammer, Ann Dowd, Kristen Scott Thomas, Pippa Winslow, Lucy Russell, and Bruno Paviot.
