2. To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You

The sequel to All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is based on the second book in the book series, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. The story starts with Peter and Lara Jean still together and them trying to decide which volunteer program to participate in. They originally were going to volunteer together, but Lara Jean ends up wanting to volunteer at a retirement home where her older sister went when she was in high school.

Little does she know that when she arrives, she reunites with John Ambrose McClaren who was sent one of her love letters. While they volunteer, they discuss her letter and that conversation starts Lara Jean on a spiral of self-doubt as she starts to compare herself to Peter’s last girlfriend, Gen.

Her self-doubt worsens on Valentine’s Day when a friend tells her what Peter used to do for Gen when they were dating. Luckily, Peter saves the day when he gives her a silver necklace and reads her a poem. Unfortunately, the poem turns out to be from Edgar Allan Poe and not original. He apologizes but things don’t get better when it seems like John Ambrose has feelings for Lara Jean.

It all comes to a head when Gen, John Ambrose, Chris, Peter, and Lara Jean meet at their old treehouse where the four friends (minus Peter) buried a time capsule. Peter almost immediately becomes jealous of John Ambrose and reveals that Lara Jean and he are in a relationship. John Ambrose did not know this ahead of time. Lara Jean and Peter argue but they end up making up. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop their relationship problems.

Chris ends up showing Lara Jean a picture of Peter and Gen together and she realizes they still talk to each other and that he planned to get back together with Gen on their ski trip. This causes Lara Jean to break up with him.

Upset, Lara Jean heads back to the treehouse where she and Gen finally have a heart to heart. This, along with a kiss from John Ambrose, leads to her going back to Peter and them declaring their love for each other. Was it the right decision? (no)

While this movie is a rollercoaster of emotions, it’s definitely romantic in the end. It’s not the fairytale romance, but a very real depiction of a relationship.
