We’ll have to wait a while longer until we see the Stranger Things season 4 trailer.

We didn’t get to see the Stranger Things season 4 trailer during the Super Bowl this year.

Fans (us included!) were hoping to see the first look at Stranger Things season 4 since early last year when it was confirmed that Hopper was alive in the first teaser for the new season.

Why we didn’t see the Stranger Things season 4 trailer during the Super Bowl

If you’ve been paying attention to Netflix, you probably knew it was pretty unlikely that we’d see the Stranger Things season 4 trailer during the Super Bowl.

First of all, these ads are super expensive. Netflix, while they spend a lot of money, is better off using its millions on actual shows and movies rather than promotion. Production is much more expensive with all the testing, additional crew, and more during the pandemic.

Netflix simply doesn’t need to release a Stranger Things season 4 during the Super Bowl. The streaming network can choose its own day to dominate coverage. Releasing a trailer during the Super Bowl, while cool, would be quickly caught up in the total reaction to the game and halftime show and all the other trailers released during the big game.

The only time we have seen a trailer for Stranger Things during the Super Bowl it was after season 1, when the show hadn’t quite become the global juggernaut it is today.

On top of that, Stranger Things might not be at the point that they’d want to release a look at season 4 right now. Production has been moving much more slowly than in previous seasons. It’s totally possible that some of the main cast haven’t even filmed many scenes for the new season yet.

Although we don’t know for sure, we’re assuming that there’s quite a bit of production left on season 4, possibly months.

If that’s true, it makes much more sense for Netflix to wait and release a trailer when a trailer is ready.

Stay tuned for more news about season 4. We’re still expecting Stranger Things season 4 will be released on Netflix in late 2021.

We’ll let you know when we see the trailer for season 4.
