Get ready to shudder, thriller enthusiasts! Shutter Island is officially coming to Netflix tonight.

Directed by Martin Scorsese, this 2010 thriller-mystery is often considered one of the prolific director’s more underrated works. Visually stunning, endlessly suspenseful, and all-around mind-boggling, the increasingly scary story is carried out by A-list acting, solid writing, and a spectacular backdrop.

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Edward “Teddy” Daniels, and Mark Ruffalo plays his new partner Chuck Aule. Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, and Emily Mortimer also take on key roles in this spooky drama where past and present worlds continue to collide.

What is Shutter Island about?

The movie opens up with Edward “Teddy” Daniels and his partner Chuck Aule investigating the disappearance of a person who escaped from an eerily isolated yet scenically located hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island. After traveling to the island, they begin looking into the history of patient Rachel Solando, who was incarcerated after drowning her three children. And there’s way more to this one than meets the eye.

On Shutter Island, finding answers proves easier said than done for all who dare to explore it. For starters, not everyone is exactly who they seem or claim to be. But no spoilers here. As this mind-bending movie unfolds, Teddy becomes consumed by questions and grows suspicions of what he thinks he knows, but nothing will prove more chilling than the life-altering answers he’ll inevitably uncover.

And as fans of the movie will know, the plot twist at the end is fantastic!
