Netflix teen movies and shows for 13-15-year-olds
It should be universally acknowledged that Netflix is the best streaming platform for teen movies and shows. No other streaming network is consistently churning out content for the 13-18 year old age demographic like they are.
From YA adaptations to teen rom-coms, Netflix has the market cornered on where to go for the best content for teenagers not found on network television. Arguably, their the best place to find a diverse range of teen media period. Netflix teen shows and movies draw large audiences and often huge followings.
But, it must also be acknowledged that the streamer’s most popular teen content is more often than not rated MA. While that categorization can be based on the amount of adult language, drug/alcohol use, and blood/gore in a title like Fate: The Winx Saga, it can also be determined by sexual content and nudity in a title like Tiny Pretty Things.
Where does that leave 13-15-year-old Netflix users? Most likely not up a creek without a paddle as some of them are tuning into these shows anyway with or without their parents’ permission. However, it does makes it difficult for teens searching for content skewed more toward their age group. The same can be said for parents not comfortable with their 13 year old watching Riverdale but highly aware that Nickelodeon, Disney, and Cartoon Network are about to become staples of the past for their maturing child.
So, we’ve compiled a list of Netflix teen shows and movies suitable for younger teens. The list is comprised of sitcoms, dramas, romances, and coming-of-age stories. Some will deal with lighter topics while others cover issues that many teens deal with like peer pressure, inequality, discrimination, identity, grief, and relationship exploration (romantic and sexual).
While each show and movie selected was chosen based on its appropriateness for a younger teen audience, we acknowledge the definition of appropriate changes from household to household. As such we suggest utilizing sites like Common Sense Media and IMDb Parental Guide to make a final determination for yourself or your child.
