Main character rumored to return in Stranger Things season 4

If the rumors are to be believed, it sounds like a main character from the first few seasons of Stranger Things will be back in Stranger Things season 4.

According to a report from ComicBook.com, Matthew Modine was spotted near the set of Stranger Things season 4 recently. Images were posted by the Stranger Things 4 Updates on Instagram of Modine.

Of course, fans are speculating that could mean that Modine’s character, Dr. Martin Brenner, will be returning for Stranger Things season 4.

If that happens, it could be a huge deal for the series moving forward. Below, we’ll take a look at what it could mean for Stranger Things season 4.

Stranger Things season 4 rumors: Dr. Martin Brenner will return

I should mention, before we dive in further, that we won’t know anything until Netflix or the Stranger Things creative team confirms anything. This picture could very well be from another time or location. We’ve seen fans fooled in the past because of things like this, as always, take the rumors with some salt.

It makes sense that Dr. Brenner would return in some capacity in Stranger Things season 4. It was teased in season 2 that he was still alive. Because the Upside Down and what it is is so central to the story, we always expected that he would return in some capacity.

We still don’t know if or how it will happen, but I’m assuming it’ll have something to do with the Russia storyline. Could they have used Brenner’s knowledge to find the gate in Hawkins the first time? It’s possible.

At the end of season 3, Eleven lost her powers. Could Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, seek Brenner’s assistance to bring her powers back? That’s another less likely possibility. I think I’d have problems with the series if they were to try to humanize or redeem Brenner after all the damage he’s caused and the people he’s tortured.

As the ComicBook.com report mentions, Brenner could also be back for flashback scenes from Eleven’s past. We’ve already seen that happen back in season 2.

This is all very interesting and exciting. We still don’t know much about the Stranger Things season 4 story, but I think most fans will be excited at the possibility of Modine returning in season 4.
