Bridgerton renewed or canceled?

Bridgerton fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief! After a record-breaking Christmas debut, Netflix has confirmed Bridgerton season 2 is officially in the works by handing out a well-earned second season to the Shondaland Regency-era period drama.

The season 2 renewal news was fittingly announced by the series’ well-plugged in narrator Lady Whistledown via a special edition of her Society Paper.

“Dearest Readers, the ton are abuzz with the latest gossip, and so it is my honor to impart to you: Bridgerton shall officially return for a second season,” the announcement begins. “I do hope you have stored a bottle of ratafia for this most delightful occasion.”

The official announcement (which you can read below), comes on the heels of weeks of rumors indicating Netflix was already in the early stages of planning for production on the second season of its latest breakout hit. While whispers and buzz all pointed in the direction of a renewal, there’s nothing better than official confirmation from Netflix!

What will Bridgerton season 2 be about?

In addition to announcing the show’s renewal, Lady Whistledown’s letter also confirmed the second season of the series will follow the events of the second book in author Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, “The Viscount Who Loved Me.”

“This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season,” Lady Whistedown’s letter teased. “I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities.

According to reports, casting is currently underway for several key new roles including that of Anthony’s love interest, Kate Sheffield. With the focus shifting to Anthony, fans can also look forward to even more of his portrayer, Jonathan Bailey, in the upcoming second season.

When will Bridgerton season 2 begin filming?

As the final part of the big reveal, Netflix, via Lady Whistdown, has confirmed production on Bridgerton season 2 will begin in Spring 2021. This confirmation lines up with previous reports which suggested the show was eyeing a return to production in March 2021.

With a Spring 2021 production date set, we’ll have to wait to see if season 2 arrives in time for the holiday season or if we might be in for a longer than anticipated wait. One plus, it seems the entire season 1 cast will be returning for the upcoming season — as teased in the above letter.
