Peaky Blinders canceled by Netflix

It’s official Peaky Blinders fans! After five incredible seasons, Peaky Blinders’ run will be coming to an end after one last season. Netflix announced on Monday that the fan-favorite crime drama has been renewed for what will be its sixth and final season.

Originally debuting on BBC Two in September 2013, Peaky Blinders would make its way to the US as a Netflix Original in 2014 where it quickly found a new life. The series has developed quite a passionate following since its Netflix arrival and its cancelation is not exactly the news fans had been hoping for since season 5 dropped more than a year ago in October 2019.

Unfortunately, it seems the show is yet another causality of the ongoing pandemic as production was delayed on season 6 resulting in a longer than anticipated break between seasons. The good news is creator Steven Knight promises the final season is more than going to be worth the wait!

"“Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the COVID pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher,” Knight teased. “We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it.”"

Peaky Blinders season 7 not happening at Netflix

Although the series will be coming to an end at Netflix with no season seven to air on Netflix, there is some good news for fans hoping for more Peaky Blinders.

In confirming the show’s cancelation, it has been announced that there are plans for the story to continue after season 6 — just in a different form.

As Knight shared in a statement, “While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.” Knight seems to be keeping things vague for the time being, but it’s promising to hear there are some talks already to continue the show in some way once it comes to an end on Netflix.

One possible option is the show making the leap to print with either a novel or graphic novel, two platforms that have given canceled shows life and allowed writers to further expand a story even after the final episode has aired. It’s also possible the show could continue in another form such as an audio series — which has been a popular form for fellow BBC series Doctor Who for some time now.

A premiere date for Peaky Blinders season 6 is not yet known.
