6.Monster by Walter Dean Myers

Walter Dean Myers is a legendary author in the young adult fiction world. He wrote up until his death in 2014. With an award for outstanding children’s literature, and a grant, bearing his name, it is now time for one of his works to be immortalized on screen.

First released in 2018 at Sundance, Monster is the film adaptation of Meyers’ book of the same name which is fitting considering the story unfolds like a script written by the book’s main character, Steve Harmon (Kelvin Harrison Jr.).

Steve is a filmmaker and he sees the world around him like a movie, always changing and full of twists. Like the fact that he’s on trial for murder when his life should have been pointing toward a better future. All it takes is one thing to go sideways in your life for every dream to come crashing down.

We still don’t have a release date for Monster, but we’re eager to see how Meyers’ work is brought to life by this all-star cast including Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, and John David Washington.
