If there’s one thing Netflix loves, it’s an event movie, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s directorial debut has all the makings of an event movie. While the Hamilton mastermind can be seen in his massively successful musical over on Disney+, he’s bringing his first feature directorial effort to Netflix with the film adaptation of the musical Tick, Tick… Boom! Based on the semi-autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the film centers on an aspiring theatre composer going through a tough transitional period as he nears 30 and feels far away from achieving his goals.

Tick, Tick… Boom! comes from Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has won Tony, Emmy and Grammy Awards for his successful work in musical entertainment. The musical upon which the film is based landed Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award wins for its late composer Jonathan Larson, who also created the pop culture phenomenon Rent. After setbacks in early 2020, the film wrapped production late in the year, slating the film for a mid-to-late 2021 release that’s sure to be a big one. Featuring an excellent cast of unbeatable talent, Tick, Tick… Boom! will definitely be a must-watch new release in 2021.
