Well, it was fun while it lasted! The latest Stranger Things season 4 release date rumor is not true.

For the last week or so, Stranger Things fans have been wondering if a rumored release date that has been floating around online was true or not. The rumor was that Stranger Things season 4 was coming to Netflix on Aug. 21, 2021. Well, the rumor has been debunked.

According to a report from Exclusive Hollywood, Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy confirmed on Twitter that the rumor is “not true, sorry.”

We were pretty sure that the rumored Stranger Things season 4 release date was not true for a few reasons. We even talked about it on the first Netflix Life: A Streaming TV Podcast of the year.

First of all, Aug. 21 is not a Friday, and that’s when new Netflix shows usually are released.

Most importantly, Stranger Things season 4 is still in production. Netflix almost never announces release dates before production has wrapped, and that’s likely because things can go wrong and filming can be delayed, especially in 2020 and 2021 with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stranger Things, like most Netflix shows, needs about six months, at least, from the end of production until the season is released. That means production would have to wrap by February 2021 to make that August release date happen. That’s just not in the cards, based on the other rumors that we’re all hearing about production.

So, this rumor was doomed from the start. It got the fans talking, though. It’s been a while since we’ve seen any big Stranger Things news, so as so often happens, we all like to cling to these things hoping that they are true. Well, we’ll just have to wait a bit longer now for some new information.

Recently, Gaten Matarazzo shared that season 4 is the scariest season so far. That’s good news. We also saw an incredible Star Wars video that shows Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown as Princess Leia Organa. The resemblance is ridiculous. I’ll never look at Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher, or Millie Bobby Brown the same way after watching that video.

As of right now, we’re expecting the Stranger Things season 4 release date will be sometime in late 2021. That’s the best we can predict right now.
