Crime Scene is coming to Netflix in February 2021

Do you love binging true crime docuseries like Unsolved Mysteries, The Ripper or Night Stalker? If you really like getting into not only the background of a story but the history of the locations involved, Crime Scene may become your next new true crime obsession.

Variety reported that Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, a new Netflix original series, is headed to the streamer on Feb. 10, 2021.

The first season of the new series will focus on the unsolved mystery of Elisa Lam, a 21-year-old Canadian who went missing while staying at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles in 2013. She vanished on Jan. 31, leaving all of her belongings behind. Her body was discovered over two weeks later in one of the water tanks on the hotel’s roof after other guests complained about awful pressure.

What made this case particularly chilling was elevator surveillance camera footage of Lam in what was probably her last moments alive. She’s acting erratic, at times like she’s talking to someone, at others like she’s hiding from someone. It’s extremely haunting to witness.

In fact, some even say the Cecil Hotel is haunted because of its dark history. It has seen more than its fair share of murders and suicides, and two known serial killers have even stayed there: “Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger.

Joe Berlinger, Crime Scene‘s executive producer and director, told Variety:

"“The fact that Elisa disappeared in a location that has a multi-decade history of crimes is what made her case fascinating to me.”"

This isn’t Berlinger’s first true crime documentary for Netflix. He also created and produced Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.

The first season of Crime Scene will consist of four episodes. You can start streaming it on Feb.10.
