Back in 2014, Survivor: Cagayan was a big crowd pleaser. As noted by Surviving Tribal, season 28 had “an old school feel despite it being a new school style of play.” It’s also highly revered for its truly stellar cast. And as the publication notes, it’s often ranked in the top five of seasons definitely worth watching.

The $1 million question, of course, is: Who won this season?

Who won Survivor season 28?

As those who tuned in for this season back when it premiered will remember, Tony Vlachos won Survivor: Cagayan, claiming quite the victory with a jury vote of 8-1. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, martial arts instructor Woo Hwang came in right behind the New Jersey police officer, with Attorney Kass McQuillen coming in third, and Spencer Bledsoe taking the fourth spot.

Back in the day, there was some behind the scenes drama with Tony’s first big win. As reported by Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Tony’s Survivor co-star Kass McQuillen accused production of helping him win. Yikes. Of course, “Chaos Kass” also stated more than once that she liked to cause trouble.

Also noted by Showbiz Cheat Sheet, McQuillen admitted to stirring the pot multiple times while on the show, and Tony was a definite target on more than one occasion. However, she didn’t take back what she suspected about Tony and production. Once fans online got wind of the Survivor conspiracy theory, season 28 was forever called into question by many.

Flash forward to Survivor season 40, and Tony was claimed the winner once again while competing against a number of Survivor veterans. But there was a twist. This time around, he took home not just $1 million, but a $2 million prize for being the last castaway standing!

The two-time sole survivor previously told Entertainment Weekly he “cried like a baby” while rewatching the emotional finale where he claimed victory once again. And I’m sure some of his competitors did as well.

Currently, Survivor: Cagayan and Survivor: Heroes vs Villains are the only seasons available to stream on Netflix.
