Lupin age rating: Is the new Netflix show appropriate for kids?
By FS staff
Ever since Lupin‘s debut on January 8, the buzz surrounding the Netflix series seems to just be beginning. As noted by Deadline, the new title is now the first French series to hit Netflix’s Top 10 list. By the weekend’s end, it scored the #3 spot in the US. Currently, the popular new series remains #1 in France, reports Deadline. And that’s really saying something.
As popular as it may be, Lupin is not necessarily intended for all audiences. For those who’ve already started binging it, I’m sure that’s no mystery. But for those considering adding the show to your watch list, let’s go over the premise first.
What is Lupin about?
Netflix describes the plot as:
"Inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, gentleman thief Assane Diop sets out to avenge his father for an injustice inflicted by a wealthy family."
The show has been doing pretty well with critics and viewers alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, a top critic called the French series an “addictive, clever puzzle” and that seems to be the general consensus amongst those currently tuning in. But the question remains: What age range should (or shouldn’t) be watching this one?
Is Lupin appropriate for kids?
The series has an official rating of TV-MA. According to the IMDb Parents Guide, Lupin is best suited for a more mature audience due to its moderate use of profanity, violence, some depictions alcohol, smoking, and drug use.
On top of that, the Parents Guide notes that there’s are “frightening and intense” scenes throughout the series here and there that are likely not suitable (and possibly even disturbing) to younger audiences, especially children.
For all of those who are old enough to watch and are interested, part 1 of Lupin is streaming on Netflix right now. It’s definitely worth an add to the binge list.
