Netflix adds 22 new movies and shows this week

With 2021 already looking less than great, we could all use some time with Netflix to decompress and relax for a few hours. Luckily, Netflix has plenty of new movies and shows coming this week. Whether you’re looking for a new action movie, a new season of an animated show, or a new reality series, Netflix has something for everyone.

Outside the Wire, starring Anthony Mackie, Pilou Asbæk, Emily Beecham, and Michael Kelly, hits Netflix on Friday, Jan 15. The movie takes place in the near future where a drone operator is sent to a war zone where he partners up with an android officer in order to stop a nuclear bomb. But while one of them is trying to follow the rules, the other likes to live just outside of them.

More in the mood for an animated series? The next part of Disenchantment is coming to Netflix on Friday, Jan. 15. The new season follows Bean, Elfo, and Luci as they travel to Steamland, a steampunk version of Dreamland. Bean will need to figure out some kind of conspiracy that has to do with Odval and she’ll once again have to deal with her evil mother. Based on the trailer, there also seems to be a mermaid, some psychedelic mushrooms, and lots of magic.

Looking for a new reality show to obsess over? Netflix has you covered with Bling Empire. It also comes to the streaming service on Friday, Jan. 15, and follows a group of very wealthy Asian and Asian American people living in LA as they go to parties, deal with drama, and live the glamorous life. I’m guessing/hoping this was filmed before the pandemic since they’re going to parties and traveling.

This week also brings season 4 of Carmen Sandiego and season 5 of The Magicians on Friday, Jan. 15. You can also check out Radium Girls on Saturday, Jan. 16. It’s about a group of factory workers in the 1920s who fight for better working conditions after their co-workers become ill due to radium exposure.
