Why would anyone choose to join Cobra Kai at the end of season 3?

Cobra Kai season 3 saw plenty of change when it came to students and their dojos. Very few are where they started, including one character in particular.

When the series started, Daniel had two students: Sam and Robby. Now he and Johnny together have multiple students, but there is one of Daniel’s initial students missing.

Robby is no longer with Miyagi-Do. Robby also chose not to go with his dad to Eagle Fang Karate. But Robby is still doing karate. He chose Cobra Kai.

Why would he even think about choosing Cobra Kai and Kreese? Is it just to get back at Johnny and Danny for the events of season 3? Not fully.

Tory suggests he joins the dojo

Really, it’s Tory’s doing. Robby didn’t even seem to want to join any dojo until Tory’s words.

She shared her praise for Kreese. According to her, she has managed to channel her anger into something good. She likes what she feels when it comes to fighting thanks to Kreese.

And we all know Robby is just as angry inside as Tory is.

They have very similar backgrounds in the sense that they have to look out for themselves. So, it’s not surprising that Robby wants to be able to channel his anger and feel good about something in his life again.

Going on the expedition at the zoo with Tory, Hawk, Kyler and others also helped him feel like part of a team. He was the one who stole the snake, giving him immediate respect from Kyler and some others. That feeling of having friends after everything that happened can go a long way into doing the wrong thing.

Robby also wants to get back at Daniel and Johnny on Cobra Kai

After the events of Cobra Kai season 3, Robby also wants to get back at the other two senseis.

Let’s start with Daniel, who Robby views as being a traitor. He believed Daniel wanted to help him only for Daniel to lead him into a trap that involved the police. Rather than blaming his own actions, he blames Daniel for ending up in juvie.

While in there, Robby found out his dad wanted to visit. There was that little bit of hope that Johnny was going to have Robby’s back, and then Johnny didn’t show. Instead, Johnny put Miguel first, making Robby angrier toward his father. He feels deserted and unwanted, so naturally, he wants to do what he can to hurt Johnny even more.

The best way to hurt both Johnny and Daniel is to join Cobra Kai.

It’s also about Sam

There was a little bit of hope that Johnny would choose Miyagi-Do, though. Or maybe he wouldn’t choose any karate.

Robby paid a visit to Miyagi-Do to see Sam. When he got there, he saw Sam in Miguel’s arms.

Now sure, Miguel and Sam had been sparring, but it did look like they were about to kiss. Robby saw exactly what it was. Sam can deny it all she wants, but there is chemistry between her and Miguel.

There’s no way Robby could even think about being in a dojo where either of them are. He’s hurt and lonely.

So, Cobra Kai it is.

Cobra Kai is available to stream on Netflix.
