What’s new on Netflix on January 1, 2021

We made it to 2021! While we don’t want to jinx 2021, it’s got to be better than 2020, right? Fingers crossed. Well, one good way to start out the new year is by checking out all the new movies and shows added to Netflix today!

Whether you’re looking for some classic films, a new season of a series based on a classic franchise, or two films based on a very popular HBO series, Netflix has something for everyone to start out the new year right.

It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a classic film from the 60s, the 90s, or the early 2000s, Netflix has you covered. From the 60s, you can check out Bonnie and Clyde starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway as the couple who travel around the country robbing banks, stealing cars, and escaping the cops.

Looking for a few classics from the 90s? Goodfellas and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? are both on Netflix today. Goodfellas is a classic Italian-American gangster film starring Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci while What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? is a quirky drama featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp.

More in the mood for something from this millennium? Another Leonardo DiCaprio classic, Catch Me If You Can, is also on Netflix today. Besides DiCaprio, it also stars Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, Nathalie Baye, and Amy Adams. It’s all about a forger and con man trying his best to make a life for himself while running from the FBI. If you haven’t seen this movie, now is the time!

If you want to watch something brand new, season 3 of Cobra Kai also hits Netflix today. The series is an extension of the story from The Karate Kid franchise and stars Mary Mouser, William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Xolo Maridueña, and Jacob Bertrand. The show follows the lives of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. They are now middle-aged, but their rivalry is still as strong as ever.

Or maybe you’re a huge Sex and the City fan? If so, you’re in luck because Sex and the City: The Movie and Sex and the City 2 are ready for you to stream on Netflix today. All four actresses (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis) from the show are in both movies and the story continues from where it left off when the series ended in 2004.

If there is anything we need in 2021 after the chaos that was 2020, it’s some meditation. Well, Netflix and Headspace (the meditation app) are here to help. Season 1 of Headspace Guide to Meditation is also coming to Netflix today. The docu-series goes into the science of meditation and what the many benefits are of practicing meditation on a regular basis.
