Martin Scorsese has put out some genuinely magnificent films throughout his illustrious career with such iconic flicks such as Goodfellas, Casino, Raging Bull, and Netflix’s very own Oscar-nominated motion picture The Irishman. The only one of his films to bring home the coveted Best Picture honor at the Academy Awards was The 2006 crime drama The Departed, which is headed to Netflix on Jan. 1, 2021.

The streaming network is continually adding great titles to its already impressive library, and the addition of one of Scorsese’s absolute best is now going to be part of that wonderful tradition. There is no denying that The Departed will definitely soon become a top priority, watchlist-wise for subscribers, and could easily top the charts once it is available to stream.

What is The Departed about?

The award-winning Scorsese flick is based on the 2002 Hong Kong film called Infernal Affairs. The story follows an undercover cop who has infiltrated an Irish gang in South Boston and that criminal organization’s mole in the Massachusetts State Police as they attempt to identify one another in a thrilling game of cat and mouse that never gets old.

The Departed features a star-studded cast led by Leonardo Dicaprio, who has also starred in Scorcese’s The Aviator and The Wolf Of Wall Street. The rest of the exciting lineup consists of Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Vera Farmiga, and Mark Wahlberg, just to name a few.
