17 Again is just one of the Netflix movies to check out on New Year’s Day 2021

New Year’s Day is often a day for nursing hangovers. If you have kids, you’ll want something that keeps them entertained. There are some excellent Netflix movies whatever you’re in the mood for on New Year’s Day 2021.

With 2020 being a bad year, you’re probably in the mood for movies that offer time travel and magic. Or maybe you want a movie that is all about crazy scientific experiments. Netflix has you covered.

Here are the five top Netflix movies to check out on Jan. 1, 2021.

17 Again

We’ll start with one of the movies that drops on New Year’s Day on Netflix. 17 Again stars Friends‘s Matthew Perry as a man who just wishes he could turn back time and be 17 again. He gets his wish in this Big-reverse, and he ends up in the body of his 17-year-old self, who happens to be Zac Efron.

Not only does he need to navigate teenage hormones again, but he also needs to deal with his own daughter hitting on him. Oh, and he’s trying to make things right with his wife at the same time.

It’s a fun movie that gives someone a do-over. Can we have one for 2020, please?

The Witches

If you’re looking for something with the kids, there are some excellent Netflix movies available. The Witches is leaving Netflix at the end of today, so this is a must-watch. It’s the 1990 version of the movie, starring Anjelica Huston as the lead witch who wants to get rid of all children.

The kids will love following a young boy who learns of the plan and needs to warn the world of it. The problem is he’s turned into a mouse. Will anyone be able to help him?

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Still looking for something for the children? Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is on Netflix on Jan. 1, making an excellent option to watch.

In this movie, an inventor makes it rain food. Of course, there are problems that arise and he needs to find a way to fix and turn off his crazy invention.

There are a lot of lessons for the children in this movie, including not giving up on your dream. No matter how crazy it sounds!

Sherlock Holmes

For those who want something fun without the kids, Sherlock Holmes is back on Netflix on New Year’s Day. It’s one of those movies that you can never get enough of, especially if you love Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

The movie needs absolutely no introduction. It’s Sherlock doing what he does best. Sit back and tune out the entire world for a couple of hours.

About Time

Need a movie that is set around New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day? Want something that also involves time travel? About Time is definitely one of the perfect Netflix movies.

Rachel McAdams is back with a love interest who is a time traveler (didn’t she get enough in The Time Traveler’s Wife?) played by Domhnall Gleeson. They meet on New Year’s Eve, and it’s certainly love at first sight.

When the man learns he can time travel, he learns to cherish each day as it happens. This one isn’t as sad as The Time Traveler’s Wife but certainly makes us wish we had the ability to time travel to get out of the mess of the current situation around the world.
