7. Horse Girl

Movies often provide a great escape for people when they watch, and the films that contain thought-provoking narratives are always a solid choice when it comes to having a next-level cinematic experience. While these types of motion pictures seem like they don’t release that often, most of the time, the good ones slip through the cracks, and people miss out on some truly outstanding features. One of which that deserves significant attention is the psychological drama flick Horse Girl directed by Jeff Baena and starring Alison Brie. After premiering at Sundance, the gripping title received praise from critics, most notably for Brie’s superb performance.

Horse Girl follows a socially isolated woman named Sarah, who has a fondness for crafts, horses, arts, and supernatural crime shows of all things. But things start to get strange for her after a double date. The next day she starts to hear and see things that she isn’t sure are there, and her very lucid dreams start to trickle into her waking life, upending everything she knows as well a thrusting her into a wild journey to figure out what is really going on. The story will keep you guessing, and Brie’s terrific turn will keep everyone enthralled until the credits roll on this film that, if anyone missed it in 2020, should move it to the top of their watchlist in 2021.
