5. #Alive

With so many zombie movies and TV shows out there, it can be very difficult and exhausting to find one that isn’t like all the rest. Everyone is getting pretty tired of the same stories of surviving undead encounters, and it was high time that the genre reinvents itself. #Awake accomplishes this by throwing out the old formula by brilliantly exploring how regular people in a Pandemic-esque setting would handle trying to survive the apocalypse. The South Korean action-packed horror drama has been widely praised by critics for its unique approach and has received a very impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes.

#Awake follows the rapid spread of an unknown infection in the city of Seoul that leaves the city in chaos and several of its victims turning into undead, bloodthirsty savages. Oh Joon-woo is a video game enthusiast and streamer who ends up isolating himself in his apartment to avoid the infected and not caths the pathogen himself. The film follows his story and showcases a compelling tale of survival in a modern era zombie attack that feels extremely authentic every step of the way. The movie ends up being an all-out edge of your seat thrill ride that eclipses every zombie flick people have witnessed in the past few years making it a title nobody should sleep on, and if they have, they need to stop right away.
