Based on the book series by Julia Quinn, the first season of Bridgerton arrived on Netflix a few days ago on December 25. I’ve not quite watched all of the episodes, but the show has impeccable costume design, beautiful sets, a unique score, and the actors all have wonderful on-screen chemistry. It reminds me of Downton Abbey, but with less historical accuracy and more romance.

On top of everything, the series is narrated by Dame Julie Andrews and produced by Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes.

The series revolves around the lives of the Bridgerton family, consisting of Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell), her four sons, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton) and Gregory (Will Tilston), as well as her four daughters, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Ruby Stokes), and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt). Other main characters include the members of the Featherington household: Lady Portia (Polly Walker), her husband the Baron (Ben Miller), and their daughters Philippa (Harriet Cains), Prudence (Bessie Carter), and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan).

If you’re wondering what year Brigerton takes place in, then you’ve come to the right place. We have the answer for you below.

What year does Bridgerton take place in?

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the Netflix series takes place in the year 1813. The plot centers on Britain’s high society in Regency London during the season when debutantes like Daphne, Penelope, and Marina (Ruby Barker) are being presented at court.

Everything in the show reflects the time period, from the detailed clothing all the way down to the way the characters talk and all of the strict unwed individuals must follow.
