Netflix is the best streaming spot for an All American spin-off

An All American spin-off in the works, with a season 3 episode acting as a backdoor pilot. It is still to be picked up by The CW, but we’re looking ahead at its potential success. Netflix is the best place for an All American spin-off to come for streaming.

Chances are if the show is picked up, it won’t come to Netflix, though. It’ll be another Warner Bros. Studios production, which suggests it will head to the WarnerMedia-owner streamer, HBO Max. That’s where Batwoman and Katy Keene both went.

While Batwoman got excellent live ratings on The CW, Katy Keene struggled. And it doesn’t sound like the views on HBO Max were enough to keep the Riverdale spin-off on the air in some sort of format. Fans have long-argued that had Katy Keene gone to Netflix after airing on The CW, it would have likely been more successful.

With that in mind, the All American spin-off needs to head to Netflix.

Riverdale, All American and more have benefitted from Netflix releases

Let’s just start with the fact that Netflix has helped save a lot of CW shows from being canceled. RiverdaleDynasty, and All Americans all had low ratings on The CW. Dynasty still does, but the international deal with Netflix has helped that show.

Riverdale and All American were renewed due to the successes on Netflix after their first seasons. The shows found their audience among Netflix subscribers, giving them both second seasons on The CW. Since then, ratings for the two shows have gone up on The CW and they both remain successful on Netflix.

It’s possible that the spin-off of the football series wouldn’t perform all that well on The CW at first. The network is struggling with viewership for a lot of shows right now. It’s always been the Big 5 network with the lowest ratings, but there is such a thing as too low. Until the broadcast networks and advertisers get out of the archaic view of deciding whether a show is successful or not, we need a show to do well in the live ratings or through a streaming deal afterward.

HBO Max just wasn’t enough for Katy Keene, but it could have done much better on Netflix. It ended up canceled after one season. We wouldn’t want to see the same thing happen to this spin-off idea.

Put it where fans of the parent show are

It also doesn’t make sense to split up a parent show and its spin-off. Fans of one show are likely to watch the other, especially fans of a particular character. But why should Netflix subscribers who watch All American that way bother signing up to another streamer just to see a spin-off?

For the success of the series, it makes so much more sense to keep both shows in the same place.

The parent show isn’t moving to HBO Max just yet. This show entered a legacy deal after The CW-Netflix deal came to an end. Until the series comes to an end, Netflix is the streaming home. Even when it ends, it’s not going to be an instant move. It takes three to seven years for most CW shows to head to another streaming service.

So, it’s the spin-off that needs to head to the right streaming platform. It needs to come to Netflix after airing on The CW, and preferably with the eight-days-after-the-finale deal.
