8. Booze Cruise (season 2 episode 11)

“The Booze Cruise” is another one of those episodes that is an Office classic. As a leadership/bonding/training exercise, Michael books a cruise for everyone in the office. Unfortunately, it’s January and the cruise’s Captain Jack keeps interrupting when Michael tries to make his business speech.

There is also drama with Jim and Pam as Jim brings his girlfriend, Katy. Yikes!  Her and Pam even share an awkward moment on the deck of the ship. It gets even more awkward for them when Roy decides to announce his and Pam’s wedding date on the boat. Jim is heartbroken and almost immediately breaks up with Katy realizing he doesn’t want to be with anyone but Pam.

Michael continues to try to take control of the boat by interrupting the captain and shouting that the boat is sinking. This, obviously, horrifies the other passengers. The captain ultimately grabs Michael and zip ties him to the deck of the boat.

Jim ends up talking to Michael on deck and revealing his feelings for Pam. In a heartwarming moment, Michael tells him to not give up on Pam and to pursue his feelings as much as he can,

This episode is so funny and cringe-worthy and relatable. But I think because it ends on a scene where Michael is actually serious for once, that’s what makes it so memorable and one of the top episodes of the series. Steve Carell does serious and sincere just as well as he does funny and slapstick.
