13. Branch Wars (season 4 episode 10)

If you’ve ever seen that gif of Jim leaning back in the passenger seat of a car with a fake mustache on, you’ve seen at least a little bit of this episode. But that’s only a small part of what makes this episode one to remember.

It all begins when Jim breaks up with Karen. She then becomes the regional manager of the Utica branch. When she takes the job, she tries to get Stanley to come to her branch and offers him a pay raise.

When Michael finds out…he is less than pleased and believes she is doing this to get back at Jim. So what does Michael do to retaliate? He gathers Dwight and Jim (under false pretenses) and goes to the Utica branch to pull pranks.

When they arrive, they try and fail to steal the office copier and are then quickly seen by Karen. The fake mustaches don’t exactly work all that well. She reprimands them in her office and when they leave, seems to believe this was all a trick so Jim could see her. Jim tries to tell her that that’s not the case and reveals that he and Pam are dating. #awkward

While all this is happening, Pam, Oscar, and Toby start the Finer Things Club where they talk about books, music, and art. Unfortunately, these meetings are interrupted regularly by other employees, including Andy who wants to join (they will not allow that).

Jim even attends one meeting but doesn’t take it seriously at all. Pam is less than pleased. Despite that, the Finer Things Club made its mark, as Jenna Fischer made merch for fans to buy.

If for no other reason than the “awkward situation. must hide” gif, this episode is one everyone remembers. It’s got the classic cringe-y humor the show is so well-known for.
