10. Casino Night (season 2 episode 22)

“Casino Night” is another one of those episodes that everyone remembers. Whether you ship Jim and Pam or not, this is one of their most important episodes because it’s the first time they really kiss (when Pam’s not drunk). This is also the episode before Jim moves to the Stamford branch.

It all starts with Michael setting up a casino-style charity event in the warehouse. Somehow, he ends up with two dates, Carol and Jan. This could only happen to Michael.

The episode also shows Jim and Pam auditioning bands for her wedding and Jim finally realizing that he can’t stay in Scranton, especially not once Pam is married. He goes and talks to corporate about a transfer.

The casino night goes down mostly how you’d expect. Dwight kisses Angela on the cheek when he wins a game, she slaps him, and they both smile. Once again, such a weird, strange relationship. Jan and Carol have an awkward conversation when they realize they are both Michael’s dates.

And, of course, the most poignant moment happens at the end. Jim tells Pam about the transfer, but also that he’s in love with her. Pam tries to make it seem like he misinterpreted their friendship, but we all know she feels the same. She just thinks she can’t call off her wedding or she’s too scared to.

But that’s not the end of it. Pam returns to the office and talks to her mom on the phone. Then Jim shows up and kisses the hell out of her. Unfortunately, as we later find out, that wasn’t enough to make her call off the wedding or make him stay. Ugh, this episode is as heartbreaking as it is funny.
