The Bridgerton trailer is spectacular!

Christmas will be here before you know it. This year, Netflix is giving us a most wonderful gift: the Shondaland series Bridgerton

The series premieres on Netflix on Christmas Day.

The Netflix original, Bridgerton, marks the first Netflix project for Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal), and she is joined by Chris Van Dusen (Grey’s Anatomy). This project finds Rhimes and Van Dusen as producers of the series which is based on Julia Quinn’s bestselling novels.

The series is set in the Regency Era and follows the Bridgerton family that consists of eight children and a widowed mother.

The Regency Era was all about excess and drama, and in this series, that is fueled by the elusive Lady Whistledown, who is played by Julie Andrews. Andrews is never seen, only heard, as the voice of Lady Whistledown, who pens a tabloid where she promises to unearth everyone’s secrets and publish them for all to read.

Below is the fabulous trailer that gives us a wonderful feel for the tone of this series.

Have you ever seen a period piece like this one? I think not.

The trailer gives us everything you could want in a period drama. Beautiful people, the flamboyant fashions, the hint of scandal and romance, all during the Regency Season where everyone is vying for a match.

This series will be the next big thing for Netflix. Not only is it being released on a long holiday weekend, giving people lots of time to binge-watch, but it will also appease many fans of this type of series.  This series melds the excess of the Regency Era and the modern era’s diversity, making it appealing to many demographics. If you are a fan of Downton Abby and the like, this will be right up your alley.

Viewers are very excited for this release, and IndieWire has named Bridgerton on its most anticipated TV of 2020 list.

This writer is very excited about this series and is very hopeful it will be renewed for another season. Since there are eight books, there should be plenty of stories for more installments.

Watch Bridgerton on Netflix on December 25.
