Misfits

The British TV series Misfits is quirky, funny, and full of action. It kept us guessing throughout its five-season run. However, things didn’t quite work that well after the first two seasons. I’ll admit that even in rewatches I can find myself taking breaks once it gets to one particular exit.

It’s all about the loss of Robert Sheehan’s Nathan Young. If you don’t watch the specials, you can even find yourself confused about what happened on the series, which doubly adds this to the list of shows that got worse after a lead left.

Nathan added the most comedic relief to the show. While Joseph Gilgun tried as Rudy, that character just didn’t quite hit the mark. And then other of the initial five started leaving, making it hard to leave anyone we could connect to on the show.

It also didn’t help that there was so much that didn’t happen for Nathan. We never got to see his powers in full or how he would deal with them. What about the seeing ghosts thing? That needed to be explored more.

Nashville

Finally, it’s all about the country music series that deserved a lot more viewers than it got. This was definitely a network problem, though.

Nashville brought some excellent storylines for the first four-and-a-half seasons. One of the strong points was seeing country music of the past clash with country music of the present day. We had this rivalry of sorts between Connie Britton’s Rayna Jaymes and Hayden Panettiere’s Juliette Barnes.

Over the years, they saw good things in each other. They would help one another, although that rivalry was still there.

Then Britton decided it was time to leave the series. Nashville tried to work without her. It helped a little that this was an ensemble cast and there were so many other characters we’d come to adore, such as Deacon, Avery, and Scarlett.

Yet, the show just didn’t quite hit the mark in the end. The series finale was epic, though.
