Scrubs

For eight seasons, we’d watched J.D., Turk, and Elliot go from interns to doctors. We watched as Turk and Carla’s relationship grew. The bond that J.D. and The Janitor had was one that kept us entertained season after season.

And then most of the main cast left. The whole setting of the series changed, and the entire heart of the show was gone.

When it comes to shows that got worse after the lead left, there’s no way Scrubs could be left off. While we still had Turk and Dr. Cox, they weren’t enough to keep the series going. It was the bonds with the other characters that pulled us in.

And there wasn’t much redeemable about some of the doctors that did show up in the final season.

Downton Abbey

I did um and ah about Downton Abbey. You see, I still watch the series and loved the movie. But I’ll admit that there’s something missing since the loss of two main characters.

The first was the loss of Sybil. Her death was absolutely heartbreaking, but it did allow Tom Branson to grow as a father and figure out his place in a world that he was never born into. That loss was hard but didn’t make the TV show worse.

The loss that did make me struggle to enjoy the show for a while was that of Matthew Crawley. He was a fan-favorite from the beginning, and the growth of the love story between him and Mary Crawley was just what the series needed.

Just as the two were happy and witnessing the birth of their first child, things went terrible. Matthew died in a shocking car crash that left us all reeling. And Mary simply wasn’t the same after that. While I love Matthew Goode, I just don’t feel the same chemistry between him and Michelle Dockery as she and Dan Stevens ever had.

While the loss wasn’t as bad as some of the others on this list, something is still missing from this series/movie franchise.
