What is Tiny Pretty Things on Netflix?

Tiny Pretty Things uses the world of ballet to raise the “barre” on young adult mystery dramas.

“If a ballerina falls hard, and nobody’s there to catch her…does she still make a sound?”

That’s the question the narrator poses in the trailer to Tiny Pretty Things, which is being described as Black Swan meets Pretty Little Liars and makes “ballet look like a bloodsport.”

Let’s take a look at the new Netflix original series that premieres on the streamer on December 14.

Here’s the description of the series from Netflix:

"When an attack brings down the star student at an elite ballet school, her replacement enters a world of lies, betrayal —and cutthroat competiton."

Tiny Pretty Things is set in the fictional Archer School of Ballet, an elite ballet academy in Chicago. It also serves as the school that Chicago’s professional ballet company, City Works Ballet, draws from. That means only the best of the best get in.

The Archer School “welcomes” dancers of all kinds: rich and poor, from all areas and all kinds of backgrounds. Despite some differences, they share one thing in common: their passion for dance.

Oh, and a desire to be the best.

When former top dancer Cassie takes a fatal four-story “misstep,” a spot opens up for the formerly passed over Neveah (Kylie Jefferson) to attend Archer. She quickly learns Cassie’s fall may not have been accidental. She may have been pushed.

Neveah is a rebel with a cause –to prove she’s the best. But, again, that’s what the others want to do too, except for different reasons. Like Bette (Casimere Jollette), who wants to prove she’s just as talented as her older sister, Delia (Tory Trowbridge), or June (Daniela Norman), who’s always been back-up but is ready for the spotlight.

They all may be willing to work hard, but not everyone can be a prima ballerina. How far as these ballerinas willing to go to get to the top, and what has Neveah gotten herself into? Is this really what she wants…and can she handle it?

Is Tiny Pretty Things based on a book?

Yes! The Netflix original series is based on the young adult novel of the same name by Dhonielle Clayton and Sona Charaipotra.
