Will The Punisher be in Spider-Man 3?

Will The Punisher join Daredevil in Spider-Man 3?

The list of characters set to appear in Spider-Man 3 continues to grow, leading many to wonder if Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/Punisher from Netflix’s The Punisher will make the cut.

Murphy’s Multiverse has reported that Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock in the canceled Marvel Netflix series, Daredevil, will apparently be returning in the third Spider-Man film.

The roster for Spider-Man 3 keeps on getting bigger, and the latest announcement regarding Netflix’s Daredevil being another solid addition has got fans speculating as to who else from the canceled shows of Disney’s competing streaming service could also appear in the follow-up to Spider-Man: Far From Home, especially Jon Bernthal’s fan-favorite Frank Castle aka The Punisher.

Cox was asked back in April if rumors were true that he would be in Spider-Man 3, and he claimed he was not going to be involved. Some time has passed, and it appears things have changed as all signs point to the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen making a triumphant comeback.

The cast of Spider-Man 3 continues to grow with news of Alfred Molina reprising his role as Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2. Andrew Garfield from The Amazing Spider-Man films and Tobey Maguire from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy are the two former neighborhood wall-crawlers also rumored to be in on the fun as well.

How could The Punisher return in Spider-Man 3?

Its apparent the MCU is going all-in on the multiverse introduced in the Spider-Man: Far From Home and the Academy award-winning film Spider-Man: Into the SpiderVerse. If characters like Daredevil and Doctor Octopus can return, there is little stopping the formidable veteran rocking a skull on his chest.

If the MCU was looking to bring in some more antihero’s into their orbit, Castle is a perfect choice.  After two incredibly engrossing seasons, The Punisher is absolutely due for a return and could add an interesting dynamic to Spider-Man 3.

There are a lot of options when speculating as to where Castle could fit in. The last time we saw Peter Parker, he was being accused of murder, presumably becoming a wanted man. The Punisher could be an interesting choice to be the one to bring a rogue vigilante to Justice and become a significant presence that keeps heroes in check if they get out of hand.

The MCU will have to raise the stakes to keep fans enthralled, and in order to keep Earth’s mightiest heroes in line, a squad may be put together under the radar, with Castle being a prime contender for a spot on the roster. There is no denying that Frank would be a perfect response from Marvel for Billy Butcher and Amazon’s hit series The Boys.

A Hulu original series could be the perfect option to strengthen their library and usherin in the era of the dark, gritty Marvel series once again. It could even presumably see the infamous Marvel character hunt down Deadpool, Jared Leto’s Morbius, Mahershala Ali’s Blade, or other nefarious comic book icons. Nothing has been set in stone for now, but it is nice to know there are plenty of options on the table should Disney decide to give the people what they want and bring back Bernthal’s punisher.

As of right now, there is no official word on the Punisher joining Spider-Man 3 or making any kind of return to the MCU. There have been many rumors online about the character rising from the ashes, but nothing has been backed up with anything credible.

For now, it will just be Charlie Cox’s Daredevil getting a second chance, but time will tell if Castle’s destiny lies with Spider-Man 3.
