Where to watch A Christmas Carol in 2020

If there is one story out there that is synonymous with that special time of year we call Christmas, it was to be none other than the 1843 novella written by Charles Dickens, known as A Christmas Carol. One of the most popular big-screen adaptions of the beloved classic is the computer-animated film starring Jim Carrey, and many Netflix subscribers are probably quite curious as to whether or not the dark fantasy holiday story will be available for a yuletide stream.

There have been several adaptations of the story over the years, with 1983’s Mickey’s Christmas Carol, 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol, which stars Tenet’s Michael Caine, and the more recent FX version starring Guy Pearce. The 2009 film received acclaim for its visuals, the score by Alan Silvestri, and the performance by both Carrey and Academy award-winner Gary Oldman, adding to the many reasons why subscribers are understandably wondering if the festive feature can be found on Netflix.

What is A Christmas Carol about?

The animated Christmas movie is much darker than other source material adaptations and offers a fascinating version of the classic holiday tale. Once again, the Victorian-era Miser named Ebenezer Scrooge is notoriously known for being an awful person, especially around the holidays. But on Christmas Eve, he is visited by three spirits, and together the trinity of mysterious Christmas apparitions takes the old stick in the mud on a journey of self-redemption.

Along with Carey, who voices four versions of Scrooge and all three spirits, and Oldman, A Christmas Carol contains a solid cast. These top-tier players include Colin Firth, Carey Elwes, Bob Hoskins, Robin Wright, and Fionnula Flanagan. The exceptional flick, which was produced through the process of motion capture, was directed by Robert Zemeckis, who is known for other films utilizing the same style, like Beowulf and The Polar Express.
